The Head-On Reality of Mimiyuuh's Dreams

They say you can tell a lot about someone by the shoes they wear. That was the first thought I had when Mimiyuuuh walked into Metroscene Mag’s January cover shoot. She was rocking a Ceinture Balenciaga, paired with mini denim shorts and a white T-shirt. I couldn’t help but say, “Grabe, ang ganda naman ng shoes mo!” She laughed and replied, “Oy! Salamat, Tumblr girl lang atake! Syempre, ngayon afford ko na, fulfill ko lang fantasy ko, ako lang ’to! Haha!”

Her words stuck with me—not just because they were candid, but because they revealed a truth about her that we’ve all come to admire. In that short exchange, Mimiyuuuh didn’t just showcase her style; she gave me a glimpse into her journey—how she dreamed big, hustled hard, and finally earned the right to wear something she once only fantasized about, all while staying humble. And in that moment, it hit me—she truly embodies the message I want Metroscene Mag to start the year with.

We entered Spotlight Creative Studio, where she greeted our team with excitement and her signature Mimiyuuuh-isms before we made our way into the dressing room with our glam team. It was the perfect setting for our conversation—glam and chikahan, we were fully in her world.

A Head-on Collision

The internet is no stranger to the fragility of fame—its constant ebb and flow, where it's either you make it or you don’t. But for those who truly want it, they find a way to make it happen. We’ve seen Mimiyuuuh become the Mimiyuuuh we know, right before our very eyes. Five years ago, when her quirky video of “Dalagang Pilipina” went viral, it was like a head-on collision—unexpected, yet with an impact.

“[I’m] so grateful and proud at the same time. Looking back, isa lang akong bading sa Baclaran na nasayaw sa masikip na bahay,” She said, reflecting on what it feels like to be in her position right now. “I’m just a girl with a dream and a pink cabinet, and now na I’m here, living my best life because of the people who supported me from the start, nakakatuwa.”

Mimiyuuuh has come such a long way, and yet, people are still rooting for her. We can't blame them—Mimi has that energy, so warm and infectious, it draws you in. It’s truly remarkable when you think about it. It’s not an exaggeration to say that anyone who witnesses Mimiyuuuh’s success today can’t help but agree: she truly deserves it.

“I don’t really see this life coming! AND WHAT I DID WAS TO TRY!” she shared. “Walang mawawala kung itatry niyo lang.” She paused for a moment, letting the weight of her words sink in before adding, “You may succeed or you may not, pero kung nag-try ka, that’s something to celebrate already! AND gusto ko lang ding idagdag na you are ENOUGH! This industry might tell you that you have to be like this and like that to be successful, but sana mainspire ko kayo to just be yourself and be head-on in chasing your dreams.”

A Painted Vision

Powerful as it is, people often forget the power of dreaming—of painting a vision in your mind and making it a vivid reality. Life can be overwhelming at times, but dreaming and working towards those dreams is something that's entirely yours, and that's at the heart of this issue featuring Mimiyuuuh.

“I love dreaming big kasi kahit hindi mo reach yung dream na yun, you can still achieve something while pursuing that dream,” she shared, adding, “And may nabasa ako na to make those dreams into reality, YOU HAVE TO SAY YES TO ANYTHING THAT WILL LEAD TO THAT DREAM! For example, you want to be healthy? MAG YES KA LANG DAW KAPAG MAY NAG-AYA SAYO MAG JOGGING, or MAG WORKOUT! If you want to achieve BEING THAT GHOWRL, YOU WILL SAY YES TO ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE YOU THAT GHOWRL!”

Dreaming isn't just about having goals; it's about that head-on perspective, about charging forward with everything you've got to face what's directly in front of you. In the same way, having a vision means confronting challenges with unwavering commitment. It's not enough to just dream—you need to charge forward, undeterred by setbacks, and make that vision your reality and also remember what all of this is for.

And that's the thing—why Mimiyuuuh is loved by so many. The People’s GHOWRL, if I may say. She dreams big, achieves her goals, but always stays humble to her roots, to her people. But more than that, she never misses the chance to paint a vision of what she dreams of. She speaks it out loud, like a mantra, manifesting it—challenging the universe to make those dreams come true. With her talent, wit, perseverance, and humility, she makes it clear that nothing’s going to stop her.

What Dreams Are Made Of

Dreaming bigger and taking greater risks is a delicate balance, but Mimiyuuuh is a testament to the power of belief. She stands here today because she believed in herself, others believed in her, and she aspires for future generations to draw inspiration from her journey, believing in one another’s visions and dreams.

“Big factor talaga is family!” Mimi said. “They always keep me grounded. Also, my friends since college and those I’ve met throughout my career. Yung mga real talagaaa! And to be honest, yung mga batang bading na tinitingala ako. I have to be a good example to them.”

Dreamers like Mimiyuuuh don’t just dream for themselves—they dream alongside the people who believe in them and have been with them every step of the way. As Metroscene Mag’s cover reflects the vibrant energy that Mimiyuuuh radiates, we hope to inspire everyone to keep dreaming big, manifest boldly, and embrace a year of growth and transformation head-on.

Mimiyuuuh may have entered the studio as the version of herself we all know and love from the internet, with that familiar charm and energy. But as we spent time talking and glamming her up to embody the vision of a dreamer from our moodboard, something more special unfolded. Our conversation was warm and inspiring—the kind I hadn’t had in a while. Inspiring and driven—those could be the words to describe it. Before we knew it, she was all glammed up for the shoot and, with head-on energy, said, ‘Tara na, galingan nating lahat!’
