Liam Payne, former member of the globally renowned boyband One Direction, has died at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel window in Buenos Aires, according to reports.
The incident took place on Wednesday at a hotel located on Costa Rica Street in Buenos Aires' Palermo neighborhood. The Buenos Aires police responded to a 911 call reporting an aggressive man, potentially under the influence of drugs or alcohol, though the individual was not identified as Payne in the initial police statement. We do not know if it was intentional or accidental. Liam was only 31.
Payne had recently been seen in Argentina attending his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on October 2, as captured in videos posted by fans online.
As a member of One Direction, Payne became an international sensation, with the band—consisting of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan—first gaining fame on the UK version of The X Factor in 2010.
Recently, Payne had been facing health struggles, postponing his South American tour in September 2023 due to a kidney infection. He had also released new music in March, including the song “Teardrops.”
Payne was a father to his son, Bear, born in 2017, who he shared with former Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole. In a video posted to YouTube in 2023, Payne reflected on the immense love he had for his son, stating, “He’s growing up so fast. He’s far smarter than I’ll ever be. He’s incredible.”
