Cartoon Network Website Shuts Down After 26 Years

An era has ended. The iconic Cartoon Network website, a digital playground for millions of kids (and okay, maybe some nostalgic adults too) for over 26 years, officially went offline on August 8th.

Upon visiting CartoonNetwork.com, users are now automatically redirected to the landing page for Warner Bros. Discovery's subscription streaming service, Max.  A message on the Max landing page reads:

"Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what's available to stream on Max (subscription required)."

The message also highlights the ability to create a Kids Profile with parental controls for a safe viewing experience. Cable subscribers can still enjoy Cartoon Network programming on their TVs and connected apps.

A Cartoon Network spokesperson explained the decision to Variety, stating, "We're focusing on Cartoon Network shows and social media platforms where we see the highest audience engagement and the greatest growth potential." The network's commitment to animation remains strong, with 11 hours of daily programming continuing to broadcast from 6 am to 5 pm.

Alternative Options for Cartoon Fun

While the Cartoon Network website is no longer available, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy cartoons. Here are some options to consider:
  • Subscription Streaming Services: Platforms like HBO Max and Hulu offer a variety of cartoons, including many Cartoon Network favorites (subscription required).
  • Free Streaming Services: YouTube Kids and PBS Kids provide free, age-appropriate cartoon content for children. Parental supervision is always recommended for these platforms.
  • Cartoon Network Asia Website: For viewers in certain regions, the Cartoon Network Asia website (https://www.cartoonnetworkasia.com/) remains operational and offers a different selection of cartoons.
  • Embrace the Shift with Parental Guidance

The closure of the Cartoon Network website signifies a shift in how fans access their favorite shows.  With a variety of alternative options available, the world of animation remains vibrant and accessible. Remember, parental guidance is crucial when navigating online platforms to ensure children enjoy safe and age-appropriate content.
