In a somber turn of events, acclaimed actor Andre Braugher, celebrated for his iconic roles in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Homicide: Life on the Street," has passed away at the age of 61. The news of his demise, which occurred on Monday, was confirmed by his longtime representative, Jennifer Allen, citing a brief illness.

Braugher's indelible mark on the entertainment industry included a poignant portrayal of Captain Raymond Holt in the beloved police sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." His versatility and depth as an actor were further evident in his role as Detective Frank Pembleton on the NBC drama "Homicide: Life on the Street," a performance that earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1998.

The actor's Emmy accolades didn't stop there; in 2006, Braugher secured a second Emmy for his role as heist crew leader Nick Atwater in the FX mini-series "Thief."

Andre Braugher, best known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," had a successful comeback in his career with the sitcom. His serious demeanor, mixed with humor, made Captain Holt a memorable character. Holt, the no-nonsense, openly gay captain of the 99th Precinct, appeared in 153 episodes over eight seasons, becoming Braugher's longest-running role. In the show, Holt faced challenges with higher-ups in the NYPD while being a role model for his precinct's detectives. This character showcased Braugher's talent and played a significant role in the show's popularity.


Born in Chicago on July 1, 1962, Braugher's journey to stardom began with a scholarship to Stanford University, where he graduated with a BA in theatre in 1984. His rich career saw him traverse both film and television, with notable appearances in the critically acclaimed "Glory" in 1989, and later in recurring roles on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and the TNT series "Men of a Certain Age."

Braugher's contributions extended to the final season of Paramount+'s legal drama "The Good Fight," where he played the role of showman lawyer Ri’Chard Lane alongside Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald.
