SOS Proves That Sad Songs Can Be Vibey in New Single 'Please Lang

"Masakit pero okay lang, masaya pero hayaan na lang," This sums up the vibe of SOS' new indie rock track, "Please Lang," part of their upcoming EP, "It Was A Moment," with Careless Music.

"It's a sad song that focuses on what happened rather than what could have been. It's also just good fun, really—being able to laugh or have a sense of humor while experiencing inevitable heartbreak. Eventually, the song takes a darker turn as the song settles; things come to an end, and we just have to accept it,” Roberto Seña, the band's lead vocalist, shared.

"Please Lang" marks SOS' second venture into Filipino tracks, following the release of "Seryoso" in 2022. The band is all about embracing their roots, and while they're totally down to do more Filipino jams, they said it is still “up for discussion” in doing more Tagalog vibe tracks.

The Sad Kembot Vibes

The band is on a journey to explore fresh music, Roberto says their new music is peak 'sad kembot,' a blend of danceable beats and heart-wrenching lyrics.

Sad Kembot is also their way of introducing their band to a new market. By injecting their personalities and personal experiences, they have been playing this irony card for the longest time. Having fun while being sad is their form of self-therapy where they feel the most natural and spontaneous in making their music.

The band shared that they wrote "Please Lang" as they talk about their own tough relationships. During lunch breaks, they started playing music and, step by step, turned those talks into a song. It became a way for them to let out their feelings. They're happy because the song really sounds like them, and it's not like the usual Filipino band music.

“I think we were slated to finish arranging another song that day, and during our lunch break, I opened a new project file wanting to jam something out. I remember laying in the chords, progression, and drums, and it started morphing. I asked Andrew (Panopio) to go for the groove; Ram (Alonzo) was on the keys, and everyone in the room could feel it,” said drummer King Puentespina.

What Can We Expect

In their 15 years in the industry, their goal is still to create music that maintains a sense of relatability without sounding the same as their previous songs. The band said that they are still in the process of discovering new sounds and expanding their market.

In 2024, SOS will be releasing not one, but two EPs starting from February. They finished their EP in one month by jokingly ‘locking themselves’ up in their studio in La Union. We can expect newer vibes and different moods for the tracks.
