A SheEO's Playbook: Lessons from Nina Ellaine Dizon's College Graduation Journey

Long story short, she graduated. Oh, how the tassels have turned for Miss Nina Ellaine Dizon as she shares her recent milestone as a degree holder!

Most people know Miss Nina Ellaine Dizon, Colourette Cosmetics and Fresh Formula founder as an empowered entrepreneur who’s not afraid to speak her mind both online and in real life. Beyond her valuable insights in business that she willingly shares, her authenticity captivated our interest in her personal journey.

As a woman who values transparency, Miss Nina’s story as a college dropout was never kept as a secret. And now, she’s writing another chapter with a whole new title. Our favorite She-EO just earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Major in Marketing Management degree, from the Lyceum of the Philippines University.

It's indeed an inspiring moment that holds valuable life lessons. Fortunately, Metroscene had the opportunity to engage in an online conversation with our she-EO, during which she generously shared some of the lessons she has acquired along her journey.

Self-improvement is a lifelong process

What we should strive for in life is to better ourselves in every endeavor that we pursue. Remember how people often say that experience is the best teacher? Well, for Miss Nina, that's never been more true. Miss Nina might have had to delay her journey to a diploma, but her lifelong learner mindset is what kept her going.

“Self-improvement is a lifelong process” she said. “I know I always talk about being a college drop-out but I never was really proud of that fact. If anything, I was proud of the things we were able to accomplish despite being one. I decided to pursue my bachelor’s degree with the intention of furthering my education and besides, you can never have too many achievements up your sleeve,”

Thanks to the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), she has finally achieved a long-time goal! From dropping out to pursue a business, to earning a degree based on business expertise — this is undeniably a full-circle moment!

Hustle for yourself and for the ones you love

Running a business isn't confined to an 8-hour shift — especially when you're a mom with full-time responsibilities. Yet, amidst all this, she finds time to create social media content and attend other engagements. You might be curious about how this boss babe manages her school responsibilities.

“Since it was not done through the traditional schooling method, I had the privilege of doing my deliverables in my free time. And because I have been running my own business for the past 8 years, I was able to earn school credit for certain subjects since these are things I have been executing already in the organization.”

Furthermore, despite juggling school and her business, Miss Nina never forgets to spend quality time with her kids, as showcased on her social media. It's a testament that hustling for your loved ones can truly push someone to give their best.

Seize the Opportunity

One major thing we could note from her recent graduation? If you have the capacity to access other ways to finish your studies, go ahead and be creative. After all, taking a different route or an option less considered by most people does not make it any less of an achievement.

“Just go for it,” she said.  “The comebacks are always greater than the setbacks. Thankfully, there are not a lot of various opportunities that are tailor-fitted to our needs and situations to accommodate us. Achieving one’s degree doesn’t always have to be done through the conventional way and acquiring it through a different route doesn’t make it any less of an achievement.”

Some setbacks in life allow us to write our stories from a different perspective. Rejection often leads to redirection, just like how life turned out for Miss Nina. This could be a reminder for us that we might be one decision away from a different life. And that it will never be too late to finish what you started.
