Former child star Miles Ocampo shared the medical emergency she had last month regarding her thyroid. In a heartfelt and inspiring post on her Instagram that she had undergone surgery after she was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma.
“I used to be scared of hospitals. But since late last year I haven’t felt my normal self," she shared. "Waking up in the middle of the night cause I can’t breathe, I get tired so easily, sooooo frustrated with my weight gain, para akong palaging hapong-hapo and sinasakal."
Despite being scared of needles, Miles bravely shared how she courageously faced the battle that was in front of her. “Then finally I had the courage to have it checked.. for someone who’s afraid of needles I feel like it was an endless blood tests, ultrasound to biopsy, then the decision to remove it ASAP.. we found out it was Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. I had to undergo Thyroidectomy surgery to remove my thyroid glands. It all happened in an instant.”

Miles also took it on Instagram to show her gratitude towards the people who acted as her ‘strongest support’ system throughout her journey. She also didn’t forget to show appreciation to people with the same condition who inspired her by sending her messages. As a thyroid cancer warrior, she reminded them they are not alone.
“A month after my operation, here I am embracing my journey and sharing it to all of you. I’ve been receiving messages from you guys who has the same situation with me that you’re inspired with what I went through, but sharing your experiences too and reading your comments inspired me too. You are not alone. Sending my love to everyone. Love and prioritize yourself.”
Ending her post, Miles highlighted how important it is to be kind and not to body shame, saying, “with or without any health conditions, no to body shaming. be kind. always. please."

Miles was also offered words of comfort by her showbiz mentor, Kris Aquino, who is currently receiving medical treatment in the US. Despite being physically distant, Aquino reached out to Ocampo and extended her support after the her thyroid surgery.
“@milesocampo praying for you… do you need anything from here? Please message me,” Aquino told the young actress on Instagram.
This after Ocampo dropped a sweet message for Aquino during her checkup: “I love you always, nanay.”
What is papillary thyroid carcinoma?
According to EndocrineWeb, Papillary thyroid cancer, or papillary thyroid carcinoma, is the most common type of thyroid cancer. Usually, papillary thyroid cancers are totally asymptomatic. However, the most common symptom is a mass in the neck. Papillary carcinoma typically arises as a solid, irregular, or cystic mass from otherwise normal thyroid tissue.
