For the past few months after the release of Red (Taylor’s Version), Swifties have speculated which album Taylor Swift would release next: Speak Now or 1989? And of course—being the detectives they are—they get very excited each time they find a potential easter egg from one of Taylor’s interviews, posts, and stories.
And finally, in the last week of August, Taylor gave us what we had all been waiting for: the announcement of her next album, Midnights, “a collection of music written in the middle of the night.”
And it doesn’t stop here. At the very start of September, Taylor Swift unveiled three (3) unique color vinyl versions of the album with different album covers—adding more excitement and mystery to the announcement. Available for only the first week of September, this vinyl trilogy features the Jade Green Edition Vinyl, Blood Moon Edition Vinyl, and Mahogany Edition Vinyl.
In Midnights: Jade Green Edition Vinyl, Taylor can be seen lying in front of a piano looking contemplative. Just the right hint of familiarity for sleepless nights with silences so loud.
In Midnights: Blood Moon Edition Vinyl, you can see Taylor holding a vintage telephone and a crystal ashtray. Reminding us of all the late-night phone calls we eventually came to regret.
In Midnights: Mahogany Edition Vinyl, aside from Taylor’s vintage glam eyeshadow, you can see her slumping against a wall, hand in her face—accompanied by her shadow among it all.
August really did slip away like a bottle of wine and none of us expected the somber, melancholic, but pleasant surprise Taylor had for us. Like it or not, we all had midnights where we were questioning our life decisions, burning the midnight oil for our goals, grieving an emotional loss, or even crucially having to feel every ounce of regret and heartbreak in our lives.
And with her 13 tracks and stories of sleepless nights, these songs would definitely hit us hard, inspire us to be more vulnerable, and possibly open our hearts to healing. Just like how Taylor writes her songs and tells her stories.
Meet you all at midnight on October 21, 2022.
