Tell us something about yourself?
I am Pepot Atienza, also known through my label, Pepot ART, a multi-disciplined artist specializing in kids' content and illustration, based in Quezon Province, Philippines.
I worked as a motion graphics artist and animator for ABS-CBN's Yey! Kids Channel. After that I pursued my passion for creating illustrations for children. I love experimenting with different art mediums for my book illustration work.
My diorama and children's illustration artworks have been recognized for their uniqueness in style by both local and international illustration award-giving bodies.
I am also a very active member of art organizations Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan and Lucban Artists Guild, and have been helping newer artists hone their craft and find their voice through these groups and personally through my social pages as well.
Where do you draw inspiration for your art?
I usually draw inspiration from random childhood memories. As a child, I grew up surrounded by a lot of toys and books. I am also fond of stories of strange and fantastical creatures told by the most interesting people I know which made my imagination always run wild and it provides me a never-ending supply of inspiration and ideas.
Describe your art style?
My art, specifically my sculptural works intend to blur the line between realism and fantasy, the seen and the unseen, the obvious and obscure. My art communicates my ideas and at the same time prompt the viewer to interpret and create their own vision of the story. It’s conversational.
Have you always wanted to become an artist?
Yes because since I was a kid I have been a very passionately curious human being. This curiosity pushed me to create and make a lot of art in different ways, painting, sculpture, animation, digital art, and many more.
