Gloc- 9 has been in the music industry long enough that most of us know his songs and sing along with it whenever we hear it on the radio. How it greatly impacts our community and has been relevant ever since, indeed his music is timeless.
To name a few, “Simpleng Tao, Walang Natira, Sirena, and Upuan” are some of the classic ones that mirror the struggle of Filipinos and through the years he stuck to making socially relevant songs that talks about poverty, OFWs, LGBT, corruption, abuse and many social issues that most Filipinos can relate to and understand.
He collaborates with other notable Filipino local artists in the Philippines and delivers unconventional music together with Francis Magalona, Rico Blanco, Ebe Dancel to name a few.
Whilst, most of what we hear nowadays would be anything under the sun that is usually about illegal substances, screwing, and endless songs circling about flirting and other indecent explicit topics. Just because it perfectly rhymes, doesn’t mean it should be put out there. But, Gloc- 9 uses his voice to create music that needs to be heard, not just by a couple of people but for the whole nation.
Comparing it to the present OPM hip-hop, he does not conform to other singers/rappers; that music is often typical and for the sake of popularity and not to impart an impact which is mostly overly saturated and senseless.
The real essence of OPM
The real essence of OPM that Gloc- 9 has continually created is not just for entertainment, but to convey a strong message for awareness and serve as an eye-opener to our society’s reality.
Today’s generation should be exposed to his music for them to explore different backgrounds and the reality that’s happening in the country. It will definitely give shivers to anyone who hasn’t heard of Gloc- 9 but really, who hasn’t?
