The 5-piece alternative rock band, Social Climb, has been making waves in the Metro Manila music scene lately. The band consists of Emilio Sena on vocals, Jiggy Santos on bass and vocals, Jeric Santos and Joseph Dineros onguitars, and Neil Sandico on drums. Social Climb hails mostly from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, consisting of four Benildeans, plus a University of Santo Tomas graduate.
They usually write songs about their own experiences and what inspires them. They have a penchant for writing anthem-like melodies — ones where the crowd can easily chant or sing along. They are also a band that don't want to box themselves in one genre. They like to experiment with other styles and create whatever they feel at the spur of the moment.
Social Climb debuted in the local Manila music scene back in June 2019 with their first single Find Me. Since then, they followed it up with two more singles: For You, released in October the same year, and Colours, released in February 2021 — the latter was distributed under independent music label newcomer Instant Ramen Party.
Social Climb has performed across the local music scene at venues such as Jess & Pat’s, Saguijo, Mow’s, and Route 196. They have been featured in Spotify editorial playlists such as Just Rock! and Fresh Finds Philippines.
And now, Social Climb is starting 2022 off with their newest single, Moments. An alternative rock song with elements of synth-pop, punk, and lo-fi rock, it delves into the themes of nostalgia and memories. The band harkens back to the times of the Polaroids, iPods, and original Playstations.
In Moments, the narrator asks a series of questions to another person about their childhood memories. At one point in the song, the narrator's denial sets in, denying differences from who they once were to now. Nevertheless, the narrator believes that these memories will live on forever despite it all.
A punkier tune than their previous releases, Moments and its energetic tempos fulfill that fleeting feeling of nostalgia Social Climb is aiming for in this song. A mood of a high-school bedroom jam, the song head bangs its way to teenage anthemic sentimentality.
The lyrics were written by members Jiggy and Jeric Santos and produced and mixed by Jeric Santos.
