A K-drama can become memorable for different reasons. It can be because of an exciting, engaging storyline. It can be because of the chemistry of its actors. It can be because of its excellent, LSS-worthy soundtrack. Heck, it can be a combination of all three even.
For those who love music, even songs they barely understand, the soundtrack plays a big part of whether or not they’ll like a K-drama. Through the years, many have produced memorable soundtracks that fans never got tired of listening to. Here are some examples:
Boys Over Flowers
It might be more than a decade since Boys Over Flowers first aired in 2009 but the Korean remake of the popular hit Meteor Garden/Hana Yori Dango lives on in the hearts of its fans thanks to its unforgettable soundtrack.
This K-drama has more than 20 songs in its soundtrack so there’s literally lots to love and to choose from. A standout song in the soundtrack is Wish Ur My Love by T-Max and J. For those who don’t know, member Kim Joon played the role of Song Woobin.
Descendants of the Sun
While much has been said about the love story of the two actors who played the lead roles in this drama, Descendants of the Sun has remained a favorite among many K-drama fans. It’s not only because of the story (remember that whole earthquake arc?), but also because of its soundtrack.
Descendants of the Sun has more than 30 songs in its official soundtrack, including Gummy’s You are My Everything, Chen and Punch’s Everyime, and K.Will’s Talk Love.
Goblin
Older K-drama fans were most likely introduced to one Gong Yoo thanks to Coffee Prince. Newer K-drama fans, however, have Goblin to thank.
Officially named Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Goblin likewise has more than 30 songs in its official soundtrack. Some of the songs you’ll hear in the drama include Chanyeol and Punch’s Stay With Me, My Eyes by 10cm, and Hush by Lasse Lindh.
Hospital Playlist
We feel that no list of K-dramas with LSS-worthy soundtracks will ever be complete without Hospital Playlist. After all, the story is literally about a barkada of doctors who have band practice when their shifts are over and all five are available to play some music.
This drama’s soundtrack is pretty much made up of hit songs (most of which are Korean) in the 90s and 2000s. Many of these songs are actually performed by the characters in this two-season series, such as I Like You, which actor Jo Jungsuk covered.
Another notable song in the series is Me to You, You to Me, which was performed by all five lead actors.
Secret Garden
Another oldie but goodie, Secret Garden is regarded as the drama that boosted the fame of its lead actors, Hyun Bin and Ha Jiwon. While its storytelling is hands down very memorable, the same can be said for its soundtrack.
Hyun Bin actually sang one of the songs in the soundtrack, That Man. Other songs that feature include Baek Jiyoung’s That Woman and Kim Bumsoo’s Appear.
