5 series Hollywood should leave out of its remake obsession

People like to recycle and, well, the same can be said for Hollywood. We’ve seen quite a number of remakes in the past few years whether in film or TV. It’s a popular trend in TV, particularly, and there are times that the remake fails to leave the shadow of the original.

We don’t know if Hollywood is just running out of ideas, if they’re banking on nostalgia to get ratings and money in, if they simply believe a remake is the wisest thing to do… or all of the above.

It really can’t be helped that remakes end up on the receiving end of comparisons with the original. It can’t be helped too that the decision to remake a show ends up irritating the loyal, often diehard fans of the original show.

That said, here are five TV shows that people should probably leave alone lest they piss off the adoring fans that are protective of them.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer may have ended in 2003 but it still has some pretty hardcore fans to date. An iconic show in its own right, Buffy was actually both a hit among viewers and critics alike. It’s actually even called a cult classic.

One of the reasons why remaking this show might not be the smartest of ideas is that a lot of the aspects of the show that appealed to its audience in the early 2000s might come across as too controversial today. And, if we’ll be honest, we don’t think anyone can play both Buffy and Spike better (and have a chemistry as strong) than Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Marsters.

Friends

Considering all the hype, nostalgia, and all related feels that burst out of people during the cast’s reunion, it’s safe to say that Friends is one of the shows that should be left alone and not remake in fear of the wrath of its fanbase.

The show is just way too iconic and the fantastic cast members leave rather big shoes to fill. It may probably not be the wisest decision to touch this legendary show and introduce the next generation Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe.

Game of Thrones

This show quite literally ended just two years ago so remaking it within the next how many years probably is not the smartest idea. With all the other spinoff shows in the works, it is most likely not in the cards anyway, but we’ll put it out there just in case.

Even if 10, 15, or however many years pass, this is a show with a solid, fierce fanbase that is extremely protective of the series. If it cannot be remade with the same quality or even better quality than the original, leave it alone.

How I Met Your Mother

Friends fans and How I Met Your Mother fans may like to argue which show is better and more iconic, but the reasons this show should not be remade are the same as the reasons for Friends.

The show is relatively new too and only ended in 2014 so remaking it anytime soon probably won’t make sense to people, especially the fans of the show.

One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill is one of the countless TV shows that dealt with all the fun, drama, and angst of high school and even post-high school life. It also pushed the envelope when it comes to the subject matter that high school TV shows deal with, such as its episode that involved a school shooting by a student.

Out of all the shows in this list, people might consider this show the least iconic and therefore the most likely to get remade. Should that happen, producers should remember that, as a couple, Nathan and Haley are held in very, very high regard by the fanbase… and that having a show with a girl who gets pregnant and then married while in high school might yield a lot of comments on social media.
