If you’re looking for a new album to stream and listen to while working at home or studying for an exam, then better drop by German-based pop singer FLØRE’s accounts now! She recently released her newest EP ‘ROMANIAC’, which centers in on a namesake character that represents the singer’s side that she had never let speak before. The part of her that seeks revenge, and is angry and mad.
The album consists of five new songs produced by NOVAA whom she worked on her debut EP ‘SUPERBLOOM’ with. And out of the new songs, we got to find out which is her favorite one--thanks to this interview we had with the singer! Here’s how it went.
Was there a certain moment or situation that made you think of creating this EP? If so, can you share what moment it was?
Well the EP is focused around mainly heartbreak and how love can change your personality. It’s not like a single moment that was like, “Okay, I’m gonna create this EP”, it was more like all these rejections and heartbreaks I had stacked on top of each other. So I just grabbed this staple of pain and made this EP. It just like a process overtime that made me do it.
Aside from heartbreak, you also discuss mental health in your songs. Why do you think it's important to do so?
I think it’s getting better that people are not afraid to talk about it anymore. I think it’s something that needs to be normalized. We all have these dark moments in our life and a lot of us are struggling with depression and other mental health issues. I remember releasing my first song which dealt with that called “Little Dancing Demons”, and I was so anxious that I was gonna release it. I was like “Now my friends and family will know that I’m depressed.”. It felt like a secret, these dark thoughts I kept them like a secret. Releasing the song felt so freeing. I even got a lot of messages from people who could relate. I think if we share our thoughts and experiences, we all grow and get better. What these dark thoughts have in common is that we feel that we’re the loneliest person in the world. So sharing it, even if just one person who feels understood, is something that’s important to do.
Apart from the title track, what's your favorite song from the new EP?
I love ‘Our Funeral’. Our Funeral is like a break up song but in a more cheerful way. It’s like, “Welcome to our funeral! Dress up nice, take a seat. This will be the last time we’re going to see each other.” It’s like kind of celebrating the end of a relationship. It’s not super cheerful but it has a freeing feeling to it.
What's next for you and your music?
I’m already writing for the third EP which will be more upbeat, and more rock-punk--well I’m trying. With real drums and more electric guitars, something like that. I’m already working on that and I can’t wait to release these songs because I feel like I’m still a very emotional character and the dark things and sadness is always a part of me. But I think it’s time for something that directs myself out of there, which will make me feel more bad-ass and stronger.
Are there any collabs you would want to do with other singers?
There are no collaborations planned yet. But artists I would like to collaborate with is YOUNGBLUD, he really inspires me so this is something I’m dreaming of. I love AURORA and she’s so sweet, she really inspires me as well. It’s not planned but maybe it’s happening one day.
What is your message to your fans who have been with you from the start?
I’m super grateful for every single one who supports me, tags me, and shares my things. I really like to connect with people who listen to my music and people who support me. I love this community feeling of being in the same boat and not feeling alone.
Lastly, what would you like to say to those who are just beginning to listen to your music?
I would say first, thank you. A lot of things are coming and I really like to experiment with it. And like I said, I would want to go in a rock-punk direction and experiment more, so it will not be boring--well, I hope it will not be boring. There will always be something new to discover.
