Getting where you want to be isn't easy. You might have heard this a million times, but it's one of the world's truths you need to keep in mind. If you're an incoming college student afraid of culture shock or a current one struggling, here are some tips you need to pay more attention to. In other words, let me save you from future problems by experiencing them for you.
Cramming is the devil's best friend
Cramming is really inevitable but as much as possible, try to avoid it. You don't want to have your school load pile up together until you find yourself in an avalanche of school works. If you can work on it beforehand, do it!
Get out and make friends!
You don't have to be the most social of all butterflies, but to meet people outside your typical bubble or at least recall their names, faces, or what you talked about could work to your advantage when pursuing certain goals.
Popularity doesn't matter
Sure, some names on campus will be familiar, but you are not in high school anymore! Everyone is more fixated on doing their own thing, hanging out with people they vibe with, and more. Cliques do exist, but again, focus on your own journey.
Pick professors for the right reasons
You may not know this, but you can always find a class of a professor that fits your needs! Find those professors who can widen your knowledge and make you look at things from a different angle. Tuesday with Morrie by Mitch Albom vibes!
Failure is your best friend
There will be moments where you'll feel defeated or discouraged from the culture shock or overall academic flow, and that's okay. Acknowledge and feel those emotions, but don't stay for long. Get back up when you're ready.
