Ed made his comeback gig at Snape Maltings in Suffolk as part of Radio 1's Big Weekend of Music where he recorded a new set of some of his old songs.
Despite dropping a surprise single called 'Afterglow' back in December, it's been nearly two years since the singer-songwriter released his studio album the Collaborations No. 6 Project and it's been over four years since his last album Divide (÷).
Recently, the singer-songwriter has also started dropping hints about what and when fans can expect a new release, so here's all we know so far.
Ed Sheeran's new album title
When it comes to album titles, Ed has been consistent in using math symbols (aside from Collaborations). His 1st studio album was titled, “+ (Plus)”, followed by his sophomore album, “x (Multiply)”, and “÷ (Divide)”. At this point, Ed may have not yet officially confirmed the title for his next album, but it is safe to say that it will be in the same vein as Subtract, Minus or -.
Ed has even sort of confirmed the title of the new album when he announced that he will become the new sponsor of the football shirt of Ipswich Town Football Club.
Ed released a brand new logo made up of his album titles '+', 'x' and '÷', plus - and =, with the word ‘tour’ underneath.
In an official interview on Ipswich Town's website, Ed said: "All will be revealed in time," when asked about the new logo.
The album, new sound
In his first interview with BBC Radio 1 Ed, described the new album as "an amalgamation of all the records." He also revealed that after years of being a solo performer he is now performing with a band.
