I'd always wondered why they hung Jesus between two thieves. Latest research shows that thieves was probably a bad translation. Jesus was really hung between two bandits who were political operators and Jesus was seen as a political threat and execution is execution. We call it crucifixion, which sanitizes it, but his execution, if Jesus was being crucified today would have been in an electric chair or by lethal injection. Jesus' execution was at the hands of the state because his action was very political. - Pastor Ron Buford, founder of Racists Anonymous.
When we reflect on Jesus' life, it's clear that he was a radical social activist who fought for justice for the common good. Contrary to the meek and tame visionary portrayed by our church, Jesus was a fierce and outspoken critic of the status quo. Remember when he openly denounced Pharisees and dined with prostitutes? Or when he overturned the corrupt Sanhedrin-run temple?
Jesus' political activism is a topic that needs to be discussed more, particularly in today's world where social and political issues are at the forefront of many conversations. It's important to understand that Jesus wasn't just a religious figure but also a political one. He stood up for what was right and just, even if it meant going against the powers that be.

We can learn a lot from Jesus' activism and apply it to our own lives. We can speak out against injustice, fight for the marginalized, and be a voice for those who have been silenced. Jesus' message was about love, compassion, and justice for all, and it's up to us to continue spreading that message today.
Although he didn't lead or join rallies like modern-day activists, there's no question that Jesus challenged the social structures of his time. In some ways, it was this very activism that led to his demise.
Jesus for the people
People will often just pick up the Bible without considering its context historical and cultural context, missing out on many stories showing his activism. Jesus was for the people, and he associated himself with those who were outcasts in society.
Jesus is already revolutionary based on the company that he kept. He was friends by lepers and prostitutes— groups that were, you know, castigated by society.
He became the face of liberation for marginalized groups and became an enemy of the state by preaching and teaching everyone to stand for truth and justice. He brought hope for everyone by bringing them in under God at the same time.
Following his footsteps
In a country like ours, where people are being silenced by oppression and violence is tolerated by false leaders, we should emulate Jesus— how he fought and stood against the ruling elites. Being a faithful follower of Jesus is not limited to prayer; it also means embodying his true essence and engaging in activism.
As followers of Jesus, we are responsible for promoting social justice and speaking out against oppression. We must also be willing to learn and understand his teachings' historical and cultural context to fully grasp the depth of his activism. By doing so, we can continue to live out his message and make a positive impact on the world around us. Let us be the light in these trying times.
