Whether you were satisfied or you hated how it ended, you can’t deny that Game of Thrones is one of the most successful television series out there. George R. R. Martin’s fictional world of Westeros is so vast and so rich in narrative that it’s not a surprise that HBO has eventually greenlighted a prequel series (titled House of the Dragon).
However, it seems like the kingdom that is Game of Thrones is pretty much a gift that keeps on giving because ICYMI, three more prequel series, is in the works! We’ll tell you all about them in a short while.
But first, here’s what we know about House of the Dragon
As mentioned, House of the Dragon is the only prequel officially greenlit by HBO so far. The series, which is said to show the beginning of the end for the House Targaryen, will be ten episodes long and is scheduled for release in 2022.
Announced as part of its cast are Paddy Considine (Viserys Targaryen the First), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), and Steve Touissant (Corlys Velaryon).
So what will the three other prequels be about?
There isn’t much known about the three series in the works as they’re in the very early stages of planning. Of the three, a series reported to be called 9 Voyages already has a writer attached to it and will be about Corlys Velaryon, who is part of the House of Dragon story.
Does that mean both series are somehow connected? It’s too early to tell, but what we know about Corlys Velaryon is that he is otherwise known as Sea Snake, the greatest seafarer in the history of Westeros.
The second series is reportedly called 10,000 Ships and centers around Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell (she marries Lord Mors Martell) and the founder of the Kingdom of Dorne. As for the third series, the only thing known about the project is that it will be about Flea Bottom, the poorest district in King’s Landing.
These three prequels join another prequel in the works, Tales of Dunk and Egg, in waiting for the official thumbs up from the network.
Which of these series are you most excited about? Any character you think deserves his or her own series? Let us know in the comments!
