Believe it or not, Crinkles (or Crinkle Cookies as they’re known elsewhere) are commonly only eaten during Christmastime in other countries since they’re classified as Christmas cookies. No one really knows how Crinkles were invented but some sources claim it’s all thanks to a certain Helen Fredell of St. Paul, Minnesota, who was mentioned in one of the Betty Crocker cookbooks.


It’s pretty difficult to imagine eating Crinkles just during Christmas since we Filipinos love it all year round. In fact, we take Crinkles so seriously that there’s even a study done under the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science Technology! The research was titled “Development and Transfer of the Technology of Iron-Fortified Chocolate Crinkles,” and you can read the background of the study here.

We think it’s safe to say that we’re pretty much the Crinkle Capital of the world and if reading about this powdery, chocolatey treat has made you crave for it, don’t worry!
